If you have a problem with God’s Word, it’s pretty certain God’s Word is not the problem!

If your Christian growth seems stagnated even though you are in God’s Word, or if you are away from God’s Word for any reason, you can give any number of reasons why the Word of God is not for you, and you’d be wrong.

Don’t Miss the Gas Stations

One time, for a family vacation, we rented a big Ford SUV. It was nice. Because it was a newer model it had many of the latest bells and whistles, including an audible warning to let you know you were down to the last five gallons of gas. As part of that family vacation, we … Continue reading Don’t Miss the Gas Stations

The Mag Seven (Part 2)

Yesterday, we started talking about Scripture’s “Magnificent Seven” and covered virtue, knowledge, temperance (self-control), and patience (endurance). We’ll finish that up with the last three of the Mag Seven: godliness, brotherly kindness and charity (love). “Godliness” means “God-likeness.” God created mankind to be an image bearer of Himself. “And God said, ‘Let us make man … Continue reading The Mag Seven (Part 2)

Kindred Spirits

As a blessing to the Philippians, Paul sends to them two men whom he considers kindred spirits: Timothy and Epaphroditus. Timothy’s trip is short term. Paul sends him as a liaison to comfort the Philippians on Paul’s status and to report back to Paul on the Philippians’ status: But I trust in the Lord Jesus … Continue reading Kindred Spirits

Put Legs on Your Faith

It used to be a tug-of-war to get him to do that. Then I started using treats as a reward every time I … Continue reading Put Legs on Your Faith

Try that with the Mona Lisa the next time you’re at the Louvre and see where … Continue reading Be remembered well

No interruptions, only divine appointments

Yesterday I was downstairs changing the ballast on a fluorescent light when I realized I needed something out of my tool bag. So, I started rummaging around in the bag to get what I needed when I cut my left thumb on an exposed blade. The cut was deep and serious enough to where Jane … Continue reading No interruptions, only divine appointments

As basic as reading and writing

I mentioned before that I used to serve as a worker in a faith-based addiction recovery program. One of the verses we all had to memorize was Luke 9:23… “And he said to them all, ‘If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.’” … Continue reading As basic as reading and writing

Get mowing, sluggard!

We used to have someone come up to our property in Zionville to mow our lawn while we lived in Greenville (about 3 hours away). The outfit we hired was based about an hour away and had other clients in the area. Then one day we got an email from them telling us that because … Continue reading Get mowing, sluggard!

Leveling Up

If you’re familiar with video games, you’re familiar with the concept of “leveling up.” Video games have different levels with each successive level becoming more difficult than the previous one. In each level the character you are playing acquires different skills (power-ups), points, weapons, etc. that help him or her meet the “boss” on that … Continue reading Leveling Up
