When God Takes You off the Path You Know

The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way. (Psalms 37:23)

It’s not a vacation until you get lost. I cannot tell you how often we have lost our way while on vacation. I admit it’s mostly because I am directionally challenged. But, sometimes getting lost has brought us to some really cool destinations, places we would have never found had we not gotten lost.

In our walk with the Lord, sometimes it seems we have lost our way. We might find ourselves somewhere we never planned to go, and we wonder, “Lord, why here?” Sometimes God makes it readily apparent. Sometimes it’s not until many years later when we look back on our lives when we realize: “Oh. That’s why You took me that way.”

Some of the ways that God takes us is for chastisement, like when God sent Israel to travel the desert before leading them to the Promised Land. Other times the side paths are for growth as when David spent his time on the run from Saul, or Joseph spent his time in Egypt before God promoted him.

Maybe now you’re on a path that does not seem to make sense. It seems like it’s deviating from what you thought God’s plans were for you. Make sure your heart is right with God and then take heart knowing that the steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD.
