There are so many things we turn to for our personal identity, our sense of self-worth, our security. It might be our job, our friends, or our place in society.
None of those things has any connection to God.
Yet, God, the Self-existent Creator of all things – my Creator – pledges to me Himself and all His resources.
“And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you” (Isaiah 46:4).
Identity? I belong to my Savior and none shall pluck me out of His hand (John 10:29).
Self-worth? I am accepted in the beloved (Ephesians 1:6).
Security? Jesus has said: “I will never leave thee nor forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:5).
With all of these things assured to me by my heavenly Father, there’s just one question left: “Since the Lord is my Shepherd, why should I want?”
